Helping our kids
For Randy, there is nothing more rewarding than empowering youth, and helping guide them on the pathway to success. He has spent years working with kids in San Marcos as coach and mentor, and has donated countless of hours to causes that help local kids.
For the last decade, Randy has served on the Governing Board of San Marcos Unified School District (SMUSD), and in that time, has witnessed dramatic academic gains in the district. Since being elected in 2008, ten schools have been named California Distinguished School, and two school became
California Gold Ribbon Schools. San Marcos High School and San Marcos Elementary schools were rebuilt, Double Peak School was constructed, and the district is in the process of modernizing several other campuses. SMUSD now routinely sends students to the finest colleges in the country, and has among the highest graduation rates, and lowest dropout rates of any district in the county. Today, SMUSD is considered one of the finest public school districts in the State of California.
One issue of major concern to parents in SMUSD is crowded campuses. In his time on the school board, Randy has been involved in the construction of five schools (and the modernization of others) as the district continually tries to keep up with city growth. As a member of the City Council, he is will be uniquely positioned to work closely with city staff and the school district to address this growing concern.
Randy is also a founder of two non-profits whose objectives were/are helping San Marcos Youth. He is most proud of The San Marcos Promise, an organization that opens doors to higher learning to San Marcos students, whether it’s college or career, and provides financial assistance for those who qualify. To date, the San Marcos Promise has helped hundreds of San Marcos'
students, and Randy continues to serve on its board of directors. (visit www.thesanmarcospromise.org)
Randy was also a member of the governing board of San Marcos Youth Baseball for many years, coached several teams, and is currently the head coach of the San Marcos High School surf team, reigning State Champs.
